Victory
From NewspeakWiki
Victory - Always capitalised. A very common epithet in Oceania, often graphically expressed by means of a simple "V". It is commonly used in product names and Victory Mansions, Victory Cigarettes, Victory Gin, and Victory Coffee are mentioned in the novel. These products are always of inferior quality and it's indicated that they are generally meant for consumption by the proles and Outer Party members, not Inner Party members.
[edit] Differences in adaptations
In the movie adaptation from 1984, military equipment is also mentioned: Victory Vampires, Victory Fighter Bombers, and Victory Recoil-Operated Heavy Machine Guns. Furthermore, he name "Victory Lottery" can be seen on a poster, as well as some unspecified Victory hygiene products in Winston Smith's apartment. Nothing of this is mentioned in the novel.
[edit] Background
The use of the epithet Victory is not particular for totalitarian states, but it was more emphasised in the Soviet bloc than in Western Europe and North America after World War II. For instance, Victory Day was always celebrated on the 9th of May, and still is in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus.
