User:Orwelliantherye
From NewspeakWiki
Ladies and gentlemen, this is Orwelliantherye (aka Rye, and Rev. Rye).

[edit] Username Origin
I got the username from my old habit on Internet Boards of naming myself with something related to the theme of the board and the suffix "intherye", from my favorite novel The Catcher in the Rye.
[edit] Religion
I was raised into the Lutheran Church (Missourah Synod), which has brought up such luminaries as Dr. Seuss, and John List, which should give you some idea as to the kind of people the church breeds. While I found the Bible very interesting as a book, could not swallow the idea of a God of any kind being so cruel but describing himself as all-loving (whether he is the Genocidal maniac in the Old Testament who makes Hitler seem like Gandhi or whether he is the stage mother he is in the New). I ultimately became the resident leper of my grade school (affiliated with the church), with things ranging from gaining an in-school suspension for no reason whatsoever (apparently because I gestured a kid to move aside twice) and my being blamed for starting the AIDS pandemic, while my church took a turn for the fundie, while our pastor became obsessed with Mel Gibson's The Passion and gave an entire Easter sermon as the Angel outside Jesus' tomb. Eventually, I went to a Catholic High School just to spite them, and I certainly find it better than Grade school. I have made it more clear there that I don't believe in God and surpsisingly, the people at school and even my dad (the son of a Catholic deacon) accept it (although my mother accepts my opposition to organized religion, she hopes I believe in God). Despite my lack of Religion, on March 10, 2007, I became ordained in the Universal Life Church (mainly because I read that all four Beatles did). I have yet to actually marry anybody with this authority, however.
[edit] Background on the Forum
[edit] As Told by Mephi
"A "hyperlexic freethinker" (ex-Lutheran Missouri Synod) who started to post on and off occasionally, Orwelliantherye (or "Rye" as he is occasionally called) started to post regularly in mid-May of 2006, just in time for the First War on rats, and credits himself with being the first to coin the phrases "The Batshit War"(In the medals thread) and "First war on rats" (In his signature). Orwelliantherye has great taste in music, and often likes to discuss that very subject. In addition, orwelliantherye likes to discuss religion, or rather, his irrational hatred for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Orwelliantherye is a socialist, but unfortunately rarely discusses that subject. His main flaws include his relatively laconic style in a forum where many forumers have more than 100,000 words, his relative lack of threads he has started which don't come from news sources, and his lack of interest in debating anything other than music and religion (not saying his debating is bad, though!)."
[edit] As Told by Me
I started out on the forum in late February 2005. I posted on the forum on and off until I finally decided to become a full-time member of the forum in May 2006, just in time to fight in the First Batshit War against rats. One of my threads came to the Attention of BB and he enjoyed it enough to mention it in his 2005 year in review. Eventually, I did. For the most part, I generally stuck to religious issues (mainly taking the opposite side of what most religious people would do), and often, I mentioned my love for music and movies in other threads. I usually post only in the most recently updated threads, so for the most part, I tend to not make my own threads (although this has been changing lately). I usually get along well with other members of the forum, except for the fairly few conservatives on the forum, and with posters who seem to be trolls. With this in mind, and the fact that I am more active than Ingsoc Officer, who usually updates the thread, he asked me to create my own heirarchy thread, and after some misgivings, I did. I have a habit of writing fairly short posts, although I have been writing more and more longer posts (especially where I'm starting my own threads). As Mephi stated, I rarely discuss my socialism (Specifically Democratic Socialism) in large threads, unlike many other forumers. One large reason is because of the fact that while I found that Democratic Socialism was the political ideology most suited to my interests, I am mainly interested in cutting back on the power of religion, especially fundamentalist Christianity, in our society, but the economics in socialism lose me, mainly because I am not (yet) interested in the economic aspects of political theory. Of course, my brand of socialism has some Libertarian elements (primarily the Civil Libertarianism of the ACLU.)
