Sorianogate

Sorianogate was a long, protracted flame war between Ingsoc Officer, sorianofan, Q, and Mephistopheles. Sorianofan is a Christian, and his tendency to discuss Christianity with people, even using it in debates as a source of strength and faith in arguments, can upset members of the forum. Ingsoc Officer is a Democratic Socialist and a moderator, and his age probably leads him to be a little more than arrogant at times which some members can't handle. In any case, these two diametric personalities seemed destined, in hindsight, to collide as they did.

Sometime prior to the end of September of 2007 Ingsoc Officer declared that sorianofan was a troll, due to his claims that sorianofan avoids debate, uses Christianity as a crutch despite its illogic and irrationality, that sorianofan was contradictory, hypocritical, and a liar, and that sorianofan is arrogant. He began to use harsh language towards sorianofan, mostly calling him a troll, and finally eventually calming down. The flame war between Ingsoc Officer and sorianofan extended into Mephistopheles' forums.demsoc.net where he was rebuked publically by Mephistopheles. Soon thereafter, he left forums.demsoc.net for good, and then went into lurker mode on the forums.

It would have ended had Ingsoc Officer not returned to posting, beginning the second and final flame war against sorianofan sometime around the end of December to the beginning of January of 2007 and 2008 respectively. Ingsoc Officer during this second war didn't bother to try debating with sorianofan, instead accusing him of homosexuality, BDSM, and of course, trolling. When Mephistopheles and RastaSista began to defend sorianofan from Ingsoc Officer's attacks, Ingsoc Officer began accusing Mephistopheles of homosexuality and BDSM as well, but not trolling. Mephistopheles was deeply hurt by these allegations and has not been able to forget them. Eventually after about a week of this, Ingsoc Officer announced it was all a part of his psychological operations against sorianofan, in which he claimed he used people to attack sorianofan; this also hurt Mephistopheles deeply. Sorianofan left the forums for good, although he remains as a lurker. The second and final war then ended.

As for Q's involvement, he became involved in the second war shortly after posting a flood of theocracy threads throughout the forums. He became convinced sorianofan was a threat to the forums, even going so far as to temporarily ban sorianofan three times and Mephistopheles one time, causing Big Brother to temporarily ban Q to prevent him from banning sorianofan. His method of attack was the same as Ingsoc Officer's: sorianofan's twisted character. He began calling sorianofan a liar, a pervert, a pedophile, and a homosexual among other things. Once sorianofan fled, it didn't quit, either, and more threads were created by Q to prove sorianofan was the things Q claimed he was. This would set the stage for Q-gate.

[edit] Public Opinion

While most people stood aside and didn't take sides during the first sorianofan-Ingsoc Officer war, during the second, Mephistopheles and RastaSista were notable defenders of sorianofan, while the antagonists remained Ingsoc Officer and Q who tended to support each other. Eventually, people grew tired of Ingsoc Officer's behavior, and now many members have expressed outrage and anger towards Ingsoc Officer even so much as to suggest he should be banned or de-modded in some cases.
