Murray
From NewspeakWiki
Murray is the mascot of the heavy metal solo-vehicle, Dio. According to Ronnie James Dio's official website, ronniejamesdio.com, "Murray" was supposed to be an amusing name for such an intimidating and overtly satanic mascot. Throughout the years, Murray has had more important things to do than pose for Dio albums. Murray also likes drowning priests, really rocking out, giving young girls nightmares, and participating in satanic ceremonies.
[edit] Characteristics
Murray is described as a "muscle-bound" mascot, who has long finger-nails or claws while usually wielding a chain. He also uses "devil horns" as his gang symbol. Murray enjoys using this chain to drown priests and to enslave Hebrews. Despite official records not existing, Murray may be anywhere from 20-80 feet tall. A National Basketball Association media guide actually lists Murray as 108 feet and 7 inches. Murray is also ripped, unlike most of his fans.
[edit] Racial Characteristics
While strictly known as a Satanic creature, Murray is usually represented as an African-American male in most Dio artwork. This may have a lot (or not a lot) to do with Ronnie James Dio's lyrics on the downtrodden overcoming the menace known as society. However, on a Dio greatest hits album and on Dio's The Last in Line Murray is presented as a Caucasian male with a black head. Since this is an inconsistency, one Dio fan has hotly contests this issue. There may very well be more than one Murray. If this was true, there would be white Murrays, black Murrays, hispanic Murrays, and possibly even an Asian Murray. Another theory is that Murray may not even be real. If this was true, it would allow inconsistencies in Dio album artwork.
