Lottery - The Lottery is the only public event that proles pay attention to. It is run by the Ministry of Plenty and has weekly pay-outs of enormous prizes. These prizes are mainly imaginary, though, and the announced winners are usually made-up persons; this scam is possible since the communications within Oceania are limited and restricted.

The name "The Victory Lottery" can be seen on a poster in Michael Radford's Movie adaptation 1984, but this name never appears in the novel.
