[edit] Conception
After The Spaghetti Incident? Guns 'N Roses was expected to work on a new album to satisfy fans. But due to the regression of the glam metal genre, Axl Rose had to find a new direction for the band musically. Axl was interviewed in the June 1996 issue if Un0 Magazine saying, "Our new album is going to be about democracy in China, 'cause that sounds like a really cool idea. I heard Ronnie James Dio is going into the Industrial Metal direction and I think, hey if it works to him it'll work for me. After that Slash and the other dregs who joined Velvet Revolver left the band or some shit.
[edit] The Buckethead Era
By 1999, Axl Rose declared that Chinese Democracy would be released by the end of the millenium, as he wants people to enjoy his music before the world would end. Axl Rose wrote the song "Chinese Democracy" on a cocktail napkin in a little under ten minutes. While trying to pen other songs, he had "total writer's cramp" and decided to "release it next year". All the while Buckethead was being cool 'n stuff. Recently, a original studio demo has leaked, revealing Axl Rose's voice to be worn out.
[edit] The Bumblefoot Era
As Buckethead left the band so he could inject H with his buddies in San Diego once again, Axl Rose had to put some faceless guitarist in his lineup and give him a corny name. Since it was 2004 now, Axl recognized that Industrial Metal just wasn't cool anymore, as Alice Cooper already done that four years before. So Axl was like, oh shit now the fans are going to be pissed at me now. So Axl Rose initiated Operation:Awesomeus, costing Geffen records around an addition eleven million dollars for studio time, production time, and "living expenses" for Axl. As a result, Axl Rose wrote a couple more crappy songs and knew that this album was never going to happen, so he just gets his below average songs leaked so Geffen could release him from his contract. The official release date for Chinese Democracy is slated for April 1st, 2008.
