Anti-Sex League

Anti-Sex League - Ingsoc organization advocating complete celibacy and Artsem reproduction among Party members. The motives are to destroy traditional family unity and surpress the sex instinct, which are considered to be deviations from the ideological cause.

There is also a Junior Anti-Sex League, whose members are easily recognised as they wear scarlet sashes, at least the female members. In the TV Adaptation 1954, the sash is chequered, though, obviously as a way of emphasising the sash in a black-and-white production. Julia is a member of this organisation, and Ogilvy is mentioned to have been a district organizer.

There have never existed any organisation such as this in a totalitarian state; on the contrary, the totalitarian regimes have rather encouraged reproduction. [source needed] However, there have been many examples of how totalitarian regimes have tried to influence sexual behaviours among the citizens; obvious examples of this are the Nazi German Ehrenkreuz der deutschen Mutter, better known as the "Mutterkreuz", and the Lebensborn.
