Ingsoc Salute - In the movie from 1984, there is an Ingsoc salute; it's never mentioned in the novel. This salute is done by crossing one's wrists above the head, thus forming a "V", the Victory sign.

The motion of crossing wrists could also be perceived as a subliminal form of bondage to the Master, otherwise known as Big Brother.

The salute in question is never mentioned in the novel.

[edit] Background

A similar salute is used in the filmatisation of Pink Floyd: The Wall, which premiéred in 1982.
